Non-toxic Shampoo + Conditioner

Happy, Wednesday everybody! Every morning in the shower, I think to myself “You need to post about your shampoo and conditioner.” Well, this post is it guys!

I have yet to post about anything hair-related yet! On this “toxin-free” journey, shampoo and conditioner have been hard to switch out because I loved my products before and my hair is a hot mess. I’m all for non-toxic products, but all the things I read implied I’d have to either 1) make my own shampoo or 2) have greasy hair forever or 3) a combination of both of them… and I wasn’t really into that.

(I actually went through my pictures to try to find a picture of myself in 7th grade because I looked exactly like THIS picture, but I couldn’t so if you didn’t know me then, use your imagination.. and if you did know me, well, you’ll agree with me.)

Here’s the thing with my hair: it’s a mess. It’s highlighted, curly, very thick, and very dry. I also blow dry it every other day (sometimes every day AH I’m killing my hair, I know), so when it comes to haircare products, I need MOISTURE but without the oiliness.

I’m not going to go into every bad chemical most shampoos and conditioners have (you can read that on my first post) but I do recommend checking your products on the ThinkDirty app or environmental working group’s cosmetics b.

Bottomline: your scalp absorbs everything.

I’ve been using ACURE hair products for the past 8 months and have really liked them for a few reasons:

  • They’re made with clean, toxin-free ingredients (no parabens, sulfates, phthalates, silicone, mineral oil, or petroleum)
  • It actually “cleans” my hair and doesn’t leave it greasy or smelly
  • It’s super affordable
  • It’s easy to find (Target sells it + Amazon)

They have a line of shampoos and conditioners for all different hair types which I LOVE so if you have dry hair, thin hair, purple hair, etc.. there’s a line for you. I personally use the Argan Oil + Pumpkin Mega Moisture shampoo and conditioner because my hair is super dry. If for some reason your hair seems oily from it (which didn’t happen to me), I’ve heard that using the clarifying shampoo in between the other shampoo helps!

I’ve also heard really good things about Innersense Beauty products so it’s on my list to try as soon as I run out of my current haircare products!
